About the studio

A small East Austin studio — by deliberate choice.

Founded in 2014 by Maren Holloway. Six instructors, 25 classes a week, a cap of 16 mats per class, and a quiet room on E. 7th Street that's been our home from the very first day.

Our story

One small room. Twelve quiet years.

“Stillpoint was built on a number: how many mats fit in our room with room left over to breathe. That number is sixteen. That is the point.”

Maren Holloway opened Stillpoint in the spring of 2014, after eight years teaching in Brooklyn and a quiet move home to Austin. The first class had three students — her sister, her sister’s neighbor, and one woman who’d seen the chalkboard out front. All three are still here.

The studio is, by design, small. Sixteen mats fit comfortably with room left over to walk between rows. We have never bought a bigger sign, expanded to a second location, or run a Groupon. Every instructor we’ve hired came in as a regular student first; they took the 200-hour training with Maren, taught their first class to friends in the room, and stayed.

Twelve years later the studio looks more or less the same. The mats are newer, the bolsters have been replaced twice, the back wall got painted a deeper green last fall. There are six instructors now, 25 classes a week, and a quiet 200-hour training cohort that graduates every June and December. The math still works.

Stillpoint doesn’t run promotions, doesn’t sell high-pressure memberships, and doesn’t auto-renew anything. Most of our students come because a friend brought them — and a handful of them, eventually, bring their own.

Operating principles

Six rules that haven’t changed since 2014.

A small studio only works if its principles are non-negotiable. These are ours, written down so you can hold us to them.

Capped at 16 mats

Sixteen is what fits in our room with space to walk between rows. We don't overbook, we don't double up. If a class is full, the next one is in a few hours.

Mats and props included

Sanitized after every class. Bolsters, blocks, blankets, straps, eye pillows — all on the wall, all yours to use. Bring water; we have towels.

No contracts, no auto-renew

Drop-ins, 10-class packs, and monthly unlimited. Pause anytime; we bill manually each month. If you forget to come for a month, we don't quietly keep charging you.

Every teacher Yoga Alliance certified

Most of our team is RYT-500. Three are E-RYT (experienced). We don't bring in subs from outside — every face at the front of the room is one you'll see again.

A welcoming room

All bodies, all sizes, all experience levels, all ages welcome on every mat. We say it because we mean it; the studio looks like the neighborhood it's in.

Your first class is free

Mat, props, water — included. No card on file. We won't pitch you a package at the desk. Try the room first; decide what fits after.

Our practice

A practice that follows you off the mat.

What happens on the mat is the easy part. What it teaches you about how to breathe in traffic, sit with grief, listen to your body when it’s tired — that’s the work. We try to teach the second one through the first.

  1. 01

    Arrive 10 minutes early

Sign in, leave shoes at the door, choose a spot. Tea is on. No need to rush.

  2. 02

    Borrow what you need

Mats, blocks, bolsters, blankets, straps — all included. We have water and small towels.

  3. 03

    Tell your instructor

Pregnancy, recent injuries, what you're avoiding today — share what's useful. We adjust the class around you, not the other way around.

  4. 04

    Take what fits

Modify, sit out a pose, leave child's pose for the whole class. The practice meets you where you are. Always.

★★★★★
I came to Stillpoint after a long break from yoga, expecting to feel embarrassed. Maren put a bolster behind me in pigeon and I cried in child's pose. It felt like coming home.
★★★★★
Theo's hot class is the only one I look forward to. He sequences it like a piece of music — there's a build, a peak, a release. I leave wrung out and smiling.
★★★★★
I did the 200-hour training with Maren last year. The whole cohort still meets monthly. The training was the best money I've spent on myself in a decade.
